Ruth joined Whizz-Kidz as Chief Executive in 2004.  A wheelchair user from the age of seven, Ruth believes passionately in the importance of independent mobility in a disabled child’s life.

Prior to Whizz-Kidz Ruth forged a successful career in the private sector, in technologies, and was a Trustee of Barnardo’s for several years.

Ruth has led Whizz-Kidz to become the largest provider of powered and light weight manual wheelchairs for disabled children outside of the NHS and was awarded an OBE in 2012 in recognition of her services for disabled children and young people nationally.  The same year she was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Hull University for her services to disabled children. 

In 2018 she was appointed as a non-Executive Director of Motability Operations Group and in 2019 was selected as a member of The Mayor of London’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group.   Last year, Ruth was additionally appointed as Regional Chair for London by DWP.
