The Lloyds Bank National Business Awards 2020—a year of challenges and opportunities

17 January 2020

Another year of British business success is beginning, but 2020 will once again be dominated by Brexit and its long aftermath.

British business will finally get some measure of stability when Brexit takes place on 31 January, but this will of course depend on the result of the trade talks, which Boris Johnson has promised will not last beyond the year. This means the final date for leaving the European fold will be 31 January 2021, when EU law will no longer apply to the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the new Governor of the Bank of England, former Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Conduct Authority Andrew Bailey, will take his seat in March. He will start his tenure with a number of challenges to contend with, including Brexit and a long-scheduled Treasury review of monetary policy, which businesses will be watching closely.

British businesses will also be increasingly concerned with new and emerging issues, including cybersecurity and the long transition to a carbon net-zero economy—firms that innovate in these fields will surely win major plaudits.

One thing that is certain is the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards, which will continue to celebrate and reward UK business success in 2020.

The year ahead will present challenges, but also opportunities. Your organisation might be one of those to demonstrate growth, innovation or leadership in this changing landscape—if so, consider putting it to the test against the very best of British business in the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards 2020.
